In 2020, COVID-19 drastically changed the way therapy is delivered. There was a lot of uncertainty and In an effort to keep clients and therapists safe, many mental health professionals moved their sessions online. This shift to virtual therapy has been a significant change but proved to be beneficial for both clients and therapists.ย
Dr. Raeburn holds your privacy and confidentiality in high regard. At our practice, we understand the importance of maintaining the safety and privacy of our clients' information during online therapy sessions. That is why we use a telehealth platform that is HITRUST certified. HITRUST certification represents the highest level of security in the healthcare industry, encompassing all controls outlined in regulations such as HIPAA, CSF, NIST, PCI, ISO 27001 and ISO 27002. Furthermore, our online platform exceeds the standard security and privacy requirements to protect your data.
The platform ensures:
- Account information is always transmitted securely through multiple layers of encryption.
- The passwords you set up are encrypted and only accessible to you.
- Our platform servers are housed in a secure facility and protected by biometric scanners, proximity readers, and 24/7 security guards.
- Our platform provides bank-level security.
- The platform received the VeriSign security seal.
- The platform runs thousands of tests to ensure security.
We work hard to ensure your privacy. However, it is important for clients to also take steps to increase privacy on their end. Before the session, we urge that clients have a closed private area set up, wear headphones, and use a white noise machine outside of their roomโs door. By taking these actions, clients can ensure that their therapy sessions are as private and secure as possible.
We are committed to providing the highest level of care to our clients and we believe that maintaining the safety and privacy of their information is an important part of that commitment.
Dr. Raeburn can only provide psychology services to individuals who are physically in Florida. A licensed psychologist in the state of Florida is authorized to provide psychological services within the state. Each state has their own laws and regulations for the practice of psychology, and a license from one state does not authorize practice in another state.
However, If you are looking for coaching or consultation rather than therapy you may be able to work with her through her coaching practice.
As the world adapted to the challenges presented in 2020 by COVID-19, our therapy practice also had to adapt. Initially, the pandemic influenced our decision to shift to providing therapy sessions online, in order to protect the health and safety of our clients and therapists. However, as time went on, we found that our clients were increasingly requesting and preferring online therapy and our decision was ultimately driven by client demand. This demand, coupled with research demonstrating the effectiveness of telemental health as an equivalent to traditional in-person therapy, led us to make the decision to move our services exclusively online. Additionally, online therapy provides added benefits to our clients such as flexibility and accessibility. We believe that by offering online therapy, we can best serve the needs and preferences of our clients.
Research has consistently shown that telemental health, or online therapy, can be just as effective as in-person therapy. The American Psychological Association (APA) conducted a study which found that "telehealth is not only clinically effective but also preferred by many patients" and that "telehealth can be as effective as in-person therapyโ
Another study by the APA found that online therapy is rapidly becoming more popular, with the number of people using it increasing by more than 50% between 2019 and 2020. This increase is driven by the convenience and flexibility that online therapy provides, as well as the fact that it removes barriers such as transportation and mobility issues that may prevent some individuals from accessing in-person therapy.

Dr. Raeburn meets with you virtually through a HIPAA compliant video platform. It allows for virtual face-to-face communication and provides an authentic interaction, which is quite similar to 1:1 in-person sessions. Video sessions enable Dr. Raeburn to consider your facial expressions and body language, as she'd normally do during in-person sessions. It also enables you to see and engage with your therapist, which allows for open conversation. Our platform works on desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones
The first session is always an intake session. The Intake session is a more formal session where Dr. Raeburn will ask standard questions and collect background information to better understand the nature of your presenting problem/concern. It will allow you to get to know each other to start building a therapeutic relationship. She will also review the therapeutic process, structure, policies, and procedures.
Towards the end of the session, she will provide recommendations and explain scheduling.
As a self-pay practice, we do not accept insurance. I am not an in-network provider with any insurance, nor do I work directly with insurance companies. If you are an individual with a PPO plan, I can provide you (the client) with a superbill upon request. The client can use the superbill to apply for reimbursement from the insurance company. However, there is no guarantee that your insurance will reimburse you for your treatment. Full disclosure โ I find it essential to let you know that Insurance companies require a formal diagnosis to apply for reimbursement. Moreover, your insurance company may ask for your therapy records. Since the majority of my clients desire the highest level of privacy, this is usually undesirable.
I find that sometimes people go through arduous periods in their life and seek support but don't meet the criteria for a formal diagnosis. Furthermore, there may have been a time when an individual briefly met the criteria for a mental disorder but generally does not meet the criteria. However, to be able to use your insurance, your therapist has to provide a diagnosis. Moreover, insurance companies may request to view therapy records. The diagnosis would stay in your insurance records your entire life without the possibility to amend or change it, even after the circumstances in your life have improved. Self-pay provides and allows the provision of services without the restrictions of insurance regulations, insurance adjusters, or their third-party adjusting agencies. Client confidentiality and discretion are of the utmost importance to me.
I do not offer a sliding scale.
